Types of Oral Treatment

Cavity Treatment

If cavities develop, we use the most effective and least traumatic method possible to safely treat the issue.

Treatment of cavities is important even in primary teeth because untreated tooth decay can affect your child’s overall health and impact the development of permanent teeth, too. Healthy primary teeth also are essential to keep proper spacing in a child’s mouth as they wait for permanent teeth to come in.

Dental Sealants

Sealants involve a safe, tooth-colored coating that is applied to the chewing surface of back teeth. This helps prevent cavities and provides a protective barrier against bacteria.

Sealants are recommended for use on permanent molars and premolars and are often applied at 6 years and 12 years when these teeth erupt.

Nitrous Oxide

If your child has any apprehension toward dental work, nitrous oxide is an option at Pediatric Smiles Dentistry. Commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is recognized by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry as a safe, effective option to help children relax.

When we use it, they can focus on the movie playing on the TV in the ceiling above them rather than fret about their dental procedure.

We offer a wide range of oral treatments, including cavity fillings and dental sealants, to ensure your child’s teeth stay healthy and functional.
If your child complains of tooth sensitivity, is experiencing tooth pain, or you notice dark spots on their teeth, they may have a cavity. Schedule a dentist appointment for an evaluation and treatment plan.
A pulpotomy, also known as a baby root canal, is performed to treat decay that has reached the pulp of a tooth. It helps save the tooth and prevent further infection or pain.
Extractions are performed with local anesthesia to ensure your child is comfortable. In some cases, sedation may be used to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
Space maintainers are devices used to hold space for permanent teeth if a baby tooth is lost prematurely. They help prevent misalignment and ensure proper tooth development.
Sedation is not always necessary but may be recommended for complex procedures or for children with dental anxiety. Using nitrous oxide (laughing gas) can help keep your child calm and comfortable.
Recovery times vary depending on the procedure. Most children can resume normal activities within a day, but Dr. Francois will provide specific aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
An abscessed tooth requires immediate attention to prevent infection from spreading. Contact our office as soon as possible for an evaluation and treatment.
Yes, our team is experienced in providing oral treatments for children with special needs. We use tailored approaches to ensure every child receives safe and compassionate care.
Encourage regular brushing and flossing, limit sugary foods and drinks, and schedule regular checkups with a pediatric dentist. Preventative care is the best way to reduce the likelihood of needing extensive oral treatments.
